In the first three quarters of 2020, Shandong received 337 million tourists and achieved a tourism revenue of 376.59 billion yuan (about US$57.58 billion), returning to 48.2 percent and 44.1 percent respectively of the same period last year, 6.2 percent and 11.1 percent higher than the national ratio, according to a press conference held on Dec. 8. Shandong province ranked third in number of tourists and tourism income received during the "National Day" Golden Week this year.
Hu Shangshan, deputy director of Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that the cultural and creative industry and the high-quality tourism industry were listed as the province's top ten industries for the transformation of old and new development driving forces. By the end of 2019, Shandong has 3,208 cultural enterprises above the state designated scale, with 451,000 people employed and the total assets reaching 687.28 billion yuan, up 3.2 percent. In 2019, cultural enterprises in the province achieved an annual revenue of 445.47 billion yuan and an operating profit of 16.51 billion yuan.
Since the implementation of the major projects in the transformation of growth drivers, 698 key cultural tourism projects have been completed, with an investment of 464.87 billion yuan. In addition, the province has held four people-benefited cultural and tourism consumption seasons, which has become a cultural and tourism consumption promotion event with the largest scale, the largest number of participating enterprises and the most novel platform mode in China.
