On November 25, the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People's Government held a press conference to brief on Shandong's achievements in water conservancy reform and development during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period.

According to Liu Zhonghui, director of Water Resources Department of Shandong Province, Shandong suffers from the coexistence of frequent floods and severe droughts, and thus is faced with heavy tasks of water control. Water resources have become a fatal factor restricting the high-quality development of the province.

During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Shandong takes water management and utilization as a foundation of its long-term development, and strives to solve water security problems that restrict the high-quality development of economy and society, with unprecedented investment in water conservancy, comprehensive improvement in water security guarantee, accelerated water conservancy reform and development, and leap forward in water conservancy construction.

According to preliminary statistics, during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Shandong is expected to complete water conservancy investment of more than 200 billion yuan, which is 1.68 times that of the "12th Five-Year Plan" period. Among this, more than 60 billion yuan can be completed in 2020, which will be a record high.
