A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for the systematic protection of important cultural and natural heritage and promoting the construction of national cultural parks.
Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour to north China's Hebei Province from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Huang learned about the construction of the Great Wall national cultural park and the protection of cultural and natural heritage.
Stating that the Great Wall is a representative symbol of the Chinese nation and an important symbol of Chinese civilization, Huang urged efforts to further demonstrate the historical and cultural values of the Great Wall.
Noting that the historical relics and cultural heritages are rare and non-renewable, Huang stressed prioritizing protection while building the national cultural parks.
He required planning and building reserve areas for cultural relics based on scientific research and urged efforts to explore new methods to combine protection and utilization of cultural relics.
Huang also called for advancing social-economic development around the national cultural park through tourism.
