Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended a seminar to honor Wang Jicai, the late island guardian, in Beijing on Sept. 12.

Wang was the former head of the militia post on Kaishan Island in east China's Jiangsu province. He died from a sudden illness while on duty on July 27 at the age of 58. Wang and his wife had guarded the island post for 32 years.

During the seminar, Huang said that for those who dedicate themselves to difficult posts for a long time like Wang, their patriotism and dedication should be widely honored by the public. He said their deeds and work ethic embody the spirit of core socialist values and hard work, and the whole society should learn from them and work hard to advance national prosperity and people's happiness.

The seminar was held by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission, and the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee. Attendees of the seminar included about 100 representatives from the government and various other social circles.
