The students and teachers were those due to return to their classrooms in Guangdong province on April 27 to start their new semester, delayed for about two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To ensure their health and safety, Luohu district organized the free test.

Cen Yu'nan, a grade 3 student of Cuiyuan Middle School, said that the whole process of collecting the sample took less than half-an-hour, and she was looking forward to the beginning of the new term, as it is more efficient to prepare for the college entrance exam at school than at home.

Zhao Hui, an official at the same school, said the test would help ease the concerns of both parents and students about the latter's health at school.

Lai Shaoyang, deputy director of the testing section of the Luohu center for disease control and prevention, said all samples were tested by the Luohu Hospital Group's medical test center, and students would be able to see their results through scanning the QR code on their report.

Huang Songkun, a schoolmate of Cen, said that, after seeing the school's control measures, he was reassured that the students and teachers' health was being well protected.

The Luohu government has established eight inspection teams made up of officials from education, public health, public security and other relevant departments to check the preparations of all 35 local schools for the resumption of classes, and all had passed the examination.
