A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on July 18 called for closer media exchanges and cooperation with Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.

Liu Qibao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with a group of government spokespersons from CEE countries.

Liu, also head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, pledged to boost exchanges between government spokespersons in China and CEE countries, and facilitate more progress on the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-CEE 16+1 cooperation mechanism.

The CEE government spokespersons said they will introduce their China trip to their compatriots and promote the Belt and Road Initiative, to cement friendship and cooperation between their countries and China.

The spokespersons were in Beijing for the China-CEE Countries Spokesperson Dialogue, held on July 17.
