An exhibition themed on panda protection opened in Berlin, Germany on July 5 to coincide with President Xi Jinping’s visit in the country.
The exhibition, co-organized by the State Council Information Office (SCIO) and the Chinese Embassy in Germany, features more than 20 panda-related artworks including photos, paper-cuts and sculptures created by Chinese and German artists.
Speaking on the opening ceremony of the event, Huang Kunming, executive vice minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the exhibition could showcase China’s achievement in panda protection as well as the country’s arts and culture.
“I believe this event will be an opportunity for German people to know about China, and a platform for people-to-people exchanges between the two countries,” said Huang.
Meng Meng and Jiao Qing, two giant pandas from China’s Sichuan Province, were sent to the new Panda Garden at Zoo Berlin and greeted the German visitors on Thursday. President Xi and his German counterpart Angela Merkel attended the opening ceremony of the panda’s new home.
