Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the Guangming Daily to guide intellectuals rallying closely around the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a congratulatory letter on the 70th anniversary of the launch of the newspaper.

On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, Xi congratulated the anniversary and extended greetings to all staff members.

Highlighting the contribution and important role of the Guangming Daily over the past 70 years, Xi called on the paper to adhere to the correct political direction and build an all-media communication pattern.

Xi said he also hoped that the Guangming Daily could make constant efforts to convey the CPC Central Committee's earnest expectation and solicitude for the intellectuals and rally them closely around the CPC Central Committee to contribute to the realization of the two centenary goals and the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.

The letter was read by Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, at a symposium on the anniversary on Sunday morning.

Huang called on the Guangming Daily to wholeheartedly build a "spiritual home" for intellectuals and strengthen its influence through content-building and media integration.

Launched on June 16, 1949, the Guangming Daily is currently a national newspaper administered by the CPC Central Committee and takes intellectuals as its main readers.
