A symposium was held Tuesday in Beijing to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zhang Tingfa, former commander of Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event and met with Zhang's relatives prior to the symposium.
Zhang was appointed air force major general in 1955 and served as the political commissar and the commander of the Air Force.
Zhang was regarded as an outstanding member of the CPC, a loyal Communist fighter, a proletarian revolutionary and an eminent military leader.
Zhang died of illness in Beijing in March 2010, aged 92.
Zhang Youxia, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, also attended the symposium, calling on army officials to learn from Zhang Tingfa's beliefs, military wisdom and loyalty to the CPC.
