Beijing has launched the 2022 shopping season, which will run through the rest of the year, the city announced at a press briefing Thursday.

Beijing has launched the 2022 shopping season, which will run through the rest of the year, the city announced at a press briefing Thursday. 

By launching the consumption season, Beijing aims to further tap into consumer spending potentials and boost the market vitality through a series of brand activities. It will also introduce policies and measures for upgrading consumption, as part of the city's efforts to become an international consumption hub.

Beijing's Xicheng district will allocate over 20 million yuan to promote consumer spending and organize more than 100 promotional activities, said Yuan Li, director of the district's commerce bureau, adding that the it will pursue high-quality development to drive consumption growth.

A total of 80 million yuan of fiscal funds will also be provided to promote the consumption upgrading in Beijing's Changping district, according to Li Jun, director of Changping's commerce bureau. The district has rolled out a series of new supporting measures to encourage the integrated development of new types of consumption.

Li also said that up to 500,000 yuan will be awarded to companies that set examples of integrating the development of commerce, tourism, culture, and sports industries. And as much as 1 million yuan will be awarded to companies in the sectors of health, beauty, and fashion that have their headquarters and branches based in the district.

In addition, themed activities will be held in the capital's major shopping districts to promote consumer spending. From March 17 to April 10, visitors to Chang'an Shopping Mall could learn from inheritors of intangible cultural heritages to make traditional handicrafts, such as wool flowers and paintings on snuff bottles.
