A Hanfu design and research institute was launched in Cao county, Shandong province, on Wednesday, as part of the county's efforts to promote industrial design and build a Hanfu industry base.

With Hanfu, the traditional dress of the Han people, gaining rising popularity across China, Cao county has emerged as a leader in the industry. The county has more than 2,000 businesses related to Hanfu. More than 600 among them engage in making originally designed Hanfu and are projected to rake in 2.69 billion yuan in sales in the first half of this year, accounting for one-third of all sales nationwide.
The inauguration of the institute marks a new stage for the local industry, and the institute will provide strong support for the cultivation of Hanfu designers, market development, and brand building.
Zhou Jin, chairman of Shandong Fashion Design Association and one of China's top fashion designers, said that the Hanfu industry in Cao county enjoys a solid foundation, good prospects, and a huge potential.
Zhou said she hopes that local Hanfu enterprises will integrate the area's traditional elements in their designs, and vigorously promote Chinese clothing and Chinese culture, adding that the institute will provide more platforms for the development of the local industry.
Zhao Fulong, Party chief of Cao county, said the county will take the opportunity of the inauguration of the institute to strengthen local services, expand the innovation and development of the Hanfu industry, and create a good environment for Hanfu enterprises.
