The Luohu government will work with the Luohu-based Shenzhen Open University to found the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao City University, according to an education work conference for the new semester held by the Luohu education bureau on Sept. 5.
The building of the university, which will have multiple campuses in the district, has already been recognized by the Luohu district government as one of its key projects.
The Luohu education bureau said it will strengthen its research on the organization and management of the other city universities at home and abroad to ensure its feasibility and that the construction plan of the university will suit Luohu's actual conditions.
The bureau also disclosed in the meeting that Luohu offered another 6,589 spaces in its primary and middle schools to satisfy rising demand primarily due to the rapid increase in the district’s population. This will ensure that all children of schooling age can go to public schools near their home.
By the end of this year, Luohu will build 25 new kindergartens, when the district will have 36 government-funded kindergartens, and the number is planned to reach 72 by the end of next year.
The district will invest 80 million yuan ($11.25 million) to upgrade the schools' facilities and equipment.
