Yangon and Mandalay are the two largest cities in Myanmar, attracting many Chinese tourists and businessmen with interests in jewelry, wood and agricultural trade. The two air routes are expected to greatly facilitate bilateral trade and tourism.

Myanmar is an important country participating in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, as it connects China, Southeast Asia and South Asia.
