China donated US$250,000 worth of medical equipment to Madagascar as a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on it on Wednesday in Madagascar's capital Antananarivo.
The equipment donation was part of the two-week Chinese brightness action campaign that began in Antananarivo on May 31 to offer free treatment to cataract patients.
"I am happy that this equipment continues to serve the patients of Madagascar," the Chinese ambassador to Madagascar Yang Xiaorong said during the MoU signing.
"China attaches great importance to health cooperation with Madagascar. China will continue to work with Madagascar to treat patients who do not have financial means to treat themselves," the ambassador said.
Eleven ophthalmic experts from China are offering free operation for patients of cataracts in Antananarivo in about two weeks.
In the past 43 years, China has sent 21 medical team and 624 doctors to Madagascar.
