The bookstore called Shans is selling books on Chinese history, economy, language and literature published by Oriental Literature and Art, a publishing company which began operating in Kyrgyzstan in November 2016.

It also has offices in Beijing and Moscow, Gulina Keneshova, departmental head of the company, told Xinhua at the opening of the bookstore.

She said the Beijing office selects the Chinese books for translation.

The company plans to open a similar bookstore in Almaty, Kazakhstan, next year.

Keneshova said the bookstore has been opened to facilitate cultural exchange.

"Soon we will (translate) famous Kyrgyz books into Chinese to (acquaint) the Chinese people (with) the culture of the Kyrgyz people," she added.
