Chinese media should be innovators in news coverage and dissemination, the publicity chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said on May 25.

"The CPC stresses integrated media development and fostering a new type of mainstream media. The CPC underscores media innovation to make their products more accessible," Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said when addressing a seminar attended by Chinese and Vietnamese Communist Party members to discuss Party leadership in publicity.
Liu said the CPC has always considered news reporting and publicity work as an important part of state governance and stability. He said since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has improved the Party's leadership in publicity to inspire the whole nation to work for a better future.
"The CPC will continue to lead the media so that it guides public opinion toward a right direction, and the CPC counts on mainstream media to unite and inspire the people to form cohesion," Liu said.
Vietnamese media organizations are also working to transform themselves to meet the reality of new media, said Vo Van Thuong, Liu's counterpart in Vietnam.
Liu and Thuong held talks Wednesday on consolidating the relationship between the two parties and countries and had exchanges on deepening cooperation between publicity departments and media outlets.
