China has made contributions to the building of a global community of transport for all by expanding cooperation with other countries, promoting global connectivity and engaging in global transport governance, according to a white paper released Tuesday.
The country has earnestly fulfilled its international responsibilities and obligations and pursued win-win results and common development through operation in wider fields and at higher levels, says the white paper titled "Sustainable Development of Transport in China."
Contributing to belt and road cooperation
Following the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, China joins hands with countries under the Belt and Road Initiative in enhancing transport infrastructure connectivity and facilitating international transport.
Steady progress has been achieved in cooperation on projects including the China-Nepal Cross-border Railway and the China-Laos Railway, and a number of projects such as the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway and the Kunming-Bangkok Expressway have been completed. China has also participated in the construction and operation of a number of overseas ports, says the white paper.
China has also promoted the coordination of policies, rules and standards among countries to facilitate international transport.
The country has signed 22 agreements on international road transport with 19 countries, concluded 70 bilateral or regional shipping agreements with 66 countries and regions, with its shipping services covering all coastal countries along the Belt and Road. By the end of 2019, Chinese and foreign airlines were operating air routes in China reaching 54 countries, with 6,846 round-trip flights every week, the white paper says.
Promoting reform of global transport governance
China has become a party to nearly 120 multilateral agreements on transport, taken active part in various international transport organizations and hosted a number of international conferences including the World Transport Convention, according to the white paper.
The country is committed to undertaking all transport-related actions under the framework of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and works with other developing countries to promote reform of global governance for sustainable transport, with the goal of creating a favorable international environment for developing countries.
Attaching great importance to tackling climate change, China has actively undertaken international responsibilities and obligations that are commensurate with its stage of development and national conditions, and enforced a national strategy to proactively respond to climate change, the white paper says.
Strengthening international exchanges, cooperation
China has strengthened transport cooperation in COVID-19 prevention and control with other countries and promotes a global community of health for all.
The country has shared its epidemic prevention and control guidelines for vessels, airports and airlines and postal services and established domestic fast channels for the transport of anti-epidemic materials.
At China's initiative, the International Maritime Organization recommended and forwarded a number of protocols from China to its 174 member states and relevant international organizations.
So far, 294 batches of supplies have been provided to 150 countries and seven international organizations, and 35 teams totaling 262 medical experts have been dispatched to aid 33 countries, the white paper says.
