Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the first China Internet Civilization Conference, which opened in Beijing on Friday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the first China Internet Civilization Conference, which opened in Beijing on Friday.

In his letter, Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, called for extensively pooling positive forces and the strength of kindness and making joint efforts to create a better cyberspace.

Xi extended congratulations on the opening of the conference and a warm welcome to the attendees coming from various walks of life.

He said that as a major component of social etiquette and civility under new circumstances, internet civilization is a key area of enhancing China's strength in cyberspace.

Xi noted that China has vigorously enriched and improved online content in recent years and achieved notable results.

Stressing coordinating development and governance, Xi urged online platforms, social organizations and netizens to play a positive role in advancing internet civilization.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, read out Xi's congratulatory letter and addressed the conference.

Urging faithful implementation of Xi's instructions mentioned in the letter, Huang called for efforts to build a cleaner cyberspace and foster patriotism, morality and internet civility among users, particularly teenagers.

The conference is co-hosted by the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the Central Commission for Guiding Cultural and Ethical Progress, the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and the Beijing Municipal People's Government.
