Sun made the remarks at a symposium attended by intensive care experts who stayed in Wuhan to wrap up the fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak after most of the medical workers coming to aid the fight had headed back home and the epidemic had subsided in the once hard-hit city.

Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of a central government group overseeing the epidemic response in Hubei, said the group has valued the opinions of medical experts in improving COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment plans to produce better-than-expected treatment effects.

Lauding the 20 experts' rich medical experience and their work in Wuhan, Sun encouraged them to continue to play a guidance role in severe case treatment and clinical research, among others.

Sun also urged designated hospitals in Wuhan to adopt tailored treatment plans for severely-ill patients, stressing better nursing work such as psychological help to improve treatment effects.
