Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the 83rd general meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as an opening ceremony was held Monday in Shanghai.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the 83rd general meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as an opening ceremony was held Monday in Shanghai.

Founded in 1906, The IEC is the world's leading organization for the preparation and publication of international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.

Xi said the deeply integrated development of new technologies with sectors including new energy power generation and electric vehicles calls for the immediate formulation and application of international standards in related fields as well as strengthened international cooperation.

China will continue to support and participate in international standardization activities, and work with other countries to improve the system and governance structure of international standards, to give full play to the role of international standards in international trade and global governance, Xi stressed.

Themed "Better Quality Better Life," the 83rd IEC general meeting drew over 3,800 experts from more than 100 countries.
