Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan on Tuesday met with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias in Beijing.

Wang said both China and Greece are ancient civilizations with a long history and splendid culture. The two sides share a traditional friendship, deep feelings, close high-level exchanges and solid political mutual trust.

China is willing to work with Greece under the consensus reached by the two leaders, deepen mutual understanding in various fields at all levels, constantly consolidate the foundation of mutual trust in the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, strengthen the integration of development strategies and promote the construction of the Belt and Road, said Wang.

China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Greece in major international and regional affairs to jointly address global challenges, promote the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations, and make new contributions to building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for humanity, he said.

Kotzias said Greece is a sincere partner of China. The Greek side is willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields, strengthen mutual understanding and learning and promote the peace and development of humanity.

Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, also met Kotzias on Tuesday.

Yang said the two sides should take the opportunity of signing the Memorandum of Understanding on Belt and Road cooperation to push the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Kotzias said Greece looks forward to developing closer ties with China and pushing for new achievements in Belt and Road cooperation.
