China, Cambodia agree to strengthen bilateral relations

Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan met with Cambodia's acting head of state and Senate President Samdech Say Chhum on Sept. 19, agreeing to strengthen bilateral relations.

"China and Cambodia are good neighbors, friends, brothers and partners," said Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

The China-Cambodia friendship has stood the test of the changing international landscape and shown great vitality, and bilateral relations are at an all-time high, Liu told Say Chhum, who is also vice president of the Cambodian People's Party.

China attaches great importance to developing relations with Cambodia and will work with Cambodia to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation and realize common prosperity for the sake of the two peoples so as to foster a community of shared destiny, Liu said.

Liu thanked Cambodia's valuable support on issues concerning China's core interests, saying China will do its best to help Cambodia in its national development.

Stressing party-to-party relationship is an important component of bilateral relations, Liu said China will work with Cambodia to implement the consensus of the leaders of the two political parties, maintain close high-level exchanges and share experiences in national governance to guide the development of bilateral ties.

On behalf of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Say Chhum thanked Liu's visit to Cambodia ahead of the upcoming 19th CPC National Congress, saying Cambodia treasures the traditional friendship with China.

Cambodia is willing to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in sectors including economy and trade, push forward the cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, boost communication and coordination between the two sides on regional and international affairs, he said.

Noting the People's Party is willing to enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, he wished the 19th CPC National Congress success.

Liu is heading a CPC delegation on an official visit to Cambodia after his trip to Vietnam.
