Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a visit to China Science and Technology Museum, where he highlighted the role of this work in improving people's scientific literacy, encouraging innovation and serving the country's goal of becoming a leading power in science.

The work must be carried out to make scientific concepts take root deeply in people's minds, as the work lays the foundation for becoming a leading power in science, Liu said.

The popularization work should continue to serve the people, with more activities that are closer to the people and can answer their questions to help them with their work and lives.

Liu underscored the popularization of science among youth, encouraging scientific activities in schools and classes in order to guide them to knowledge and arouse their interest in science, while making better use of the Internet and cell phones.

He also asked the Party committees and governments at all levels to further support the popularization of science, as well as for science associations and workers to be the main force in the work.

At the museum, Liu saw a model of the world's first quantum science experimental satellite "Mozi" and learned about China's information technology before viewing models of China's nuclear power stations.

He also saw simulated air battles and joint operations related to national defence, talked with experts and stressed the popularization of science in national defense to raise the public's awareness and patriotism.

Sunday is the annual day for science popularization in China, which is focused on innovation and science's role in eliminating ignorance this year. Over 110,000 activities on the popularization were scheduled to take place across the country.
