Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, who is heading a delegation of high-ranking officials on a visit to Athens to promote cultural cooperation on April 27.

Liu, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee conveyed greetings from General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to the Greek Prime Minister.

China-Greece relations have sustained a healthy and stable development since the countries established diplomatic relations 45 years ago, said Liu. He also noted that China is willing to work with Greece to boost political mutual trust and win-win cooperation, advance people-to-people exchanges, promote the Belt and Road Initiative, and push the China-Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a higher level.

During the meeting, Liu introduced new vision, thinking, and strategies for the CPC Central Committee’s governance of China with Xi as its core. He said that the CPC is willing to deepen communication with the Radical Coalition of the Left (Syriza) on party and state governance in order to lay a solid foundation both politically and socially for the development of the two countries' relations.

Tsipras extended his best wishes for Xi and Li and hoped to promote bilateral relations in economics and trade, investment, culture, science and technology and tourism through new opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative.

Liu was leading a high level delegation visiting Greece from April 25 to 28 at the invitation of the country’s ruling Syriza Party.

During the visit, Liu also held talks with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, president of the New Democracy party, and participated in the launching ceremony of the "China-Greece Cultural Exchanges and Cultural Industry Cooperation Year" along with Greek Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis.

At the ceremony, Liu oversaw the signing of two memoranda of understanding on film co-production and translation and the publication of classic and modern Greek and Chinese literary works.

He also attended two exhibitions that opened at the inauguration; one featuring the cultural heritage of Hangzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang province, and the other showcasing the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou.
