Zhong died on Sept. 25, 2017, in a car accident on his way to a training course in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. He was 53.

Zhong had long been committed to research and education in botany and bioinformatics, contributed to talent training, discipline building and scientific research in China's western ethnic minority regions, and had achieved a series of important innovative breakthroughs.

He also supported Tibet's development for 16 years with his footprints covering the most remote and impoverished areas.

His story inspired more teachers and scientists to work harder and contribute to the country's prosperity and rejuvenation.
