The Constitution amendment approved by the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) conforms to the new situation and new practice of upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and represents the trend of the times and the call of members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese people, Wang Xiaohui, executive vice head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said during a panel discussion on studying, publicizing and implementing the Constitution on March 27.
Wang noted that the incorporation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the Constitution is the advancing of the national guiding theories with the times. It consolidates the governance of the CPC to incorporate the idea that "the leadership of the CPC is the most essential attribute of socialism with Chinese characteristics." Moreover, the removal of the Chinese president's term limit points to the long-term peace and stability of the nation.
Since the second plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee has stepped up efforts on the studying, implementation, and media publicity of the Constitution. The department has also been actively popularizing constitutional education among CPC members, young people, and people in the grassroots, while aiming to motivate the public to obey, advocate and defend the Constitution, Wang said.
