China's economy got off to a steady start in 2022 despite challenges from an increasingly complex international environment and resurgences of COVID-19 at home. The country's gross domestic product expanded 4.8% year on year to 27.02 trillion yuan (US$4.24 trillion) in the first quarter of this year, the National Bureau of Statistics said Monday.
