China's experience in combating the novel coronavirus epidemic shows that the dynamic zero-COVID approach is the best line of defense and means of putting people and life first, officials said at a news conference on Friday.
"We've prioritized lives and health ever since the epidemic began. The dynamic zero-COVID approach aims to contain sporadic outbreaks in the shortest time possible with the lowest social cost," said Wang Hesheng, head of the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control, at a news conference organized by the State Council Information Office.
He said that China has balanced the relationship between epidemic control and economic and social development, making it the world's only economy to achieve positive economic growth while securing its population's health.
He said that the epidemic has affected the world and different epidemic containment measures may play different roles in reducing the side effects.
Wang added that as the dynamic zero-COVID approach is in line with China's reality and science, it is showing good results.
"Though the approach may affect certain areas of life in the short term, it's still worthwhile. We have to pay a price for carrying out containment measures, but it's worth it to protect people. I thank all who show their understanding, respect and support for our work," he said.
