As of 2020, 65.7% of the country's rural areas had access to community service facilities, while all urban areas have been equipped with the facilities, said Wang Aiwen, vice minister of civil affairs.
China issued the 14th Five-Year Plan for Urban and Rural Community Service System Construction recently, aiming to allocate more public service resources to communities and better meet people's needs in daily life.
Wang said the plan focuses on elders, people with disabilities, children, and families in difficulties. It gives priority to services concerning people's daily lives such as community elderly care and childcare.
The plan also aims to address existing shortcomings in community services, including emergency management, risk prevention and control, medical care, and psychological services.
Digital technologies will be tapped to step up community capabilities, and the role of private companies and social organizations will be given full play so that community services will become more diverse and convenient, Wang added.
