Protected areas make up 18% of total land area of China: White paper

China issued a white paper on biodiversity conservation Friday, the first of its kind in the country, ahead of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15). According to the paper, China's protected areas account for 18% of the country's total land area.
