China's Jiangxi and Hunan provinces will jointly hold a red tourism exposition in October, to display the latest developments in the industry.

The exposition will be held in Jiangxi's Jinggangshan City, which borders Hunan Province, said Liu Qi, Party chief of Jiangxi, at a press conference on Friday.

Red tourism, which refers to visiting historical sites with a modern revolutionary legacy, has gained popularity among tourists in recent years. It has particularly burgeoned this year, as 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China.

Jiangxi will make full use of its abundant red tourism resources to promote high-quality development of the sector, said Liu.

During this year's May Day holiday, the number of visits to such tourist attractions in Jiangxi increased three times year on year, Liu noted, adding that the province has pledged to improve and upgrade red tourism services.

In 2017, 24 provincial-level regions including Jiangxi, Beijing, Shanghai, Guizhou and Shaanxi formed a red tourism promotion alliance to enhance the service quality of the industry and strengthen regional cooperation.
