A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday said the attempt of Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority to block Taiwan compatriots' pursuit of development and well-being would not succeed.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when asked to comment on the DPP's "malicious attacks" on the supportive measures the mainland unveiled on Wednesday for the development of compatriots and enterprises from Taiwan engaging in agriculture and forestry on the mainland.

The DPP authority's smear on the "22 measures on agriculture and forestry" is "nothing surprising," Zhu said, as it is common practice for the DPP to oppose "any measure" rolled out by the mainland that benefits Taiwan compatriots.

"They fear that Taiwan compatriots will benefit from development opportunities on the mainland, see through their political nature and deceitful tactics, and thus resist their attempts to create confrontation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait," she said.

Zhu said the DPP would not succeed in preventing the compatriots and enterprises from Taiwan from benefitting from development opportunities on the mainland and in obstructing the people on both sides of the Strait from becoming ever closer.
