Beijing has sent medical and disease control experts to Hebei province to help tackle the COVID-19 outbreak following a recent resurgence of locally-transmitted cases in the region, said Gao Xiaojun, a spokesperson for the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, at a press briefing Thursday.

To contain the spread of COVID-19 in Beijing, people who recently travelled to medium- and high-risk areas in Hebei province should report to the organizations they work for or communities they live in according to epidemic prevention and control measures.

Those people who are in need of medical service will also be directed to designated consulting and treatment areas, Gao added.

Beijing now has 252 nucleic acid testing facilities for COVID-19. People can make appointment to take the test via the 114 appointment platform as well as the websites and mobile apps of each medical testing facility.

Gao also advises people to cancel unnecessary trips, wear a mask, avoid mass gatherings, and practice social distancing as the Chinese New Year draws near.
