Economic growth in Taiwan this year is inseparable from the industrial and supply chains across the Taiwan Strait, said a mainland spokesperson on Wednesday.

Facts have proven that the development of the Taiwan economy cannot be separated from the mainland, said Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a regular press conference in Beijing.

In the first 11 months of 2020, cross-Strait trade totaled over 235 billion U.S. dollars, up by 13.8 percent year on year. Taiwan's exports to the mainland reached 181.7 billion U.S. dollars, up by 15.6 percent over the same period last year, Zhu said.

Unforeseen events and deliberate interference cannot impede cross-Strait economic cooperation, Zhu noted.

In response to the COVID-19 impact and profound changes in international situations, the mainland issued policies to help Taiwan-funded businesses resume operations, Zhu said. She added that the mainland would support Taiwan-funded enterprises in expanding the market in 2021.

Noting that cross-Strait economic cooperation is mutually beneficial, Zhu stressed that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities' attempts to restrict trade across the Strait, based on ideological excuses, are in vain.
