Central China's Hunan province and Meru county of Kenya have signed a letter of intent to establish a friendly relationship, Hunan authorities said Tuesday.
The two sides will jointly promote economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges and launch cooperation at the local level in various fields, according to the letter.
Hunan and Meru have huge potential and broad prospects for cooperation, and the outcomes will contribute to the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, Xu Zhengxian, head of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hunan, said at the virtual letter-signing ceremony.
The establishment of the relationship will also contribute to the development of China-Africa ties, said Xu.
Governor of Meru county, Kiraitu Murungi, said he would like to boost Meru's export of agricultural products to China and promote cooperation in tourism with Hunan.
The Kenyan county also wishes to learn more medical techniques from China and its experience in COVID-19 prevention and control, the governor said.
