Facing the next 75 years of the United Nations (UN), the international community should act together to firmly defend multilateralism and safeguard the right direction of human development and progress, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Tuesday.
Wang made the remarks in a video speech at an international seminar on the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.
"In the 75 years since the founding of the UN, it has become the consensus of the vast majority of countries to resolve differences through dialogue and negotiation and to settle disputes through mediation," Wang said.
Wang Yi put forward five proposals: to uphold the core role of the UN, to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, to pursue peaceful development, to be firm in win-win cooperation and to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
The COVID-19 pandemic will change the world, but the theme of peace and development will not change, the trend of win-win cooperation will not be reversed, and historical progress is unstoppable, Wang said, adding that China is ready to work with all parties to uphold and promote multilateralism and push the UN to embark on a new journey toward the great goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The seminar was jointly organized by the United Nations Association of China and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, with the theme "strengthening multilateralism for a better future."
