Officials of Hangzhou and Dresden addressed the opening ceremony, and a number of children awarded in the competition attended the ceremony.

The competition has been held for 13 consecutive years as a major part of the China International Cartoon and Animation Festival, a cultural exchange activity for global youths with international influence, and a platform of exchange for cartoon-loving children around the world.

Over the past 13 years, the competition for global teenagers under 18 years old has received more than 300,000 entries from over 40 countries and regions across five continents. More than 42,800 pieces were submitted to this year's competition, and 167 pieces from Germany were included in the competition after a preliminary review.

After the opening ceremony, officials from China and Germany held talks on the visit of Dresden delegation to attend the China International Cartoon and Animation Festival in Hangzhou next year.

Hangzhou and Dresden established friendly relations with each other and became sister cities in 2009, with increasingly active exchanges since the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative.

This exhibition was the fifth that was held in Germany, and it will last until Sept. 17.
