A Chengdu-themed cultural event was held in Cape Town, South Africa on Nov. 12.

A Chengdu-themed cultural event, organized by the Chengdu Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office in China's southwestern Sichuan Province, was held in Cape Town, South Africa on Nov. 12.

The event, named "Panda Chengdu", is part of the activities that answer the call of the Belt and Road Initiative. It aimed at introducing Chinese Culture, especially the culture in Sichuan Province, home of the giant pandas, to the overseas public.

During the event, Chinese artists performed ethnic dancing, singing, Chinese traditional music, acrobatics, Taichi, tea ceremony, face-changing of Sichuan opera, Chinese paintings and paper-cuttings. The event attracted a large crowd of local spectators and international tourists.

An overseas Chinese surnamed Zhang who lived in South Africa for over 10 years said that he felt proud to see the splendid Chinese culture introduced to the foreign lands, and that he himself has enjoyed experiencing this kind of cultural inheritance as a Chinese descendent.

The Chinese art delegation also delivered themed symposiums on tea ceremony, traditional Chinese medicine, painting, martial arts and calligraphy at an international school in Cape Town on Nov. 11.
