According to the latest annual reports released by the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing has achieved notable progress in many areas over the last year, topping world ranks in the fields of the digital economy, social development, technology, and so on.
Beijing has constantly enhanced its status as an international metropolis, according to the Annual Report on the Center of International Exchanges of Beijing (2021-2022).
As the world’s first dual-Olympic city, Beijing has drawn the world’s attention and comprehensively showcased China’s development achievements through the Winter Olympic Games, the report says.
Additionally, Beijing’s economy is ranked top three in the Global Power City Index. The city has retained its crown in Nature Index 2021 Science Cities for four consecutive years.
According to the Annual Report on Economic Development of Beijing (2021-2022), the city has accelerated its steps toward a world-leading economic hub over the past year, as its high-end industries represented by high-tech manufacturing industries and strategic emerging industries have maintained momentum.
As a key indicator of new business patterns, the added value of Beijing's digital economy reached 1.63 trillion yuan (around $234.56 billion) in 2021, accounting for 40.4% of the region’s total GDP. This percentage ranked the city first in the national ranking, according to the report.
Moreover, Beijing has also accelerated the process of becoming an international center for technology and innovation, with both its R&D investment intensity and the number of invention patents per 10,000 people ranking first in China in 2021.
Beijing has also made notable progress in social governance as the key factors such as income group structure, comprehensive quality of population, and social security have constantly improved over the past year, according to the Annual Report on Social Governance Development of Beijing (2021-2022).
Furthermore, the city has continued to improve its social service quality and strived to deliver basic public services to all communities, the report says.
