A new round of consumption-boosting activities encouraging use of digital renminbi payments is being held April 10-23 in Luohu district.

People will get extra discounts when they pay with the digital currency. A total of 10 million yuan of discounts will be shared by the digital renminbi application users located in Shenzhen.

Individuals who are not app users can also apply for the discounts simply by agreeing with the mobile location service and providing identity card information and cell phone number used in the Chinese mainland. Altogether 500,000 winners are being decided through the drawing of lots from 9:00 am, on April 10 to 6:00 pm on April 19.

More than 30,000 shops in Shenzhen have been upgraded with the digital renminbi transaction system, and 478 of them are participating in this new round of activities.

An insider pointed out that the digital renminbi was allocated in the form of additional discounts instead of red envelopes with the aim of nourishing residents' habit of paying with the digital currency.

In the future, Luohu will establish a batch of institutions dedicated to the research and use of digital renminbi and set up the country's operations center in the district. It will also speed up expanding its application scenario to the fields of governance, healthcare, education, and transportation.
