Luohu district mayor helps Longlin and Xilin sell specialties online

Governments heads of the Luohu district of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, as well as the Longlin and Xilin counties of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, presided over an online promotional activity aimed at helping the latter two counties sell their agricultural specialties in Shenzhen on May 12.

The activity was organized in Longlin, where Liu Zhiyong, head of the Luohu district government, and Ouyang Keshuang, head of the Xilin county government, appeared in front of the camera. Yang Ke, head of the Longlin country government, also participated in the activity online from Longlin.

Luohu is earmarked by higher authorities to help with poverty alleviation projects in the two counties.

In addition, the Luohu government issued 45,000 coupons worth 1 million yuan (US$141,000) that can be used to buy such produce as eggs, tea and honey. At 6 p.m. on the day of the event, it had attracted more than 1.66 million viewers, and the sales revenue of related online stores had increased to more than 12 times greater than their normal level.

"The internet can help quality products find a larger market and help farmers increase their income," Liu said.

He hopes that netizens will pay more attention to specialties of the counties.

"Luohu's assistance is highly appreciated, as it has helped local residents in Longlin grow richer. In addition, cooperation between Luohu and the counties is economically complementarity,"Ouyang said.

After helping lift the two counties out of poverty this year, Luohu has vowed to continue to help increase the income of local residents and improve public services there.
