Beijing is rolling out a "data revolution" by using artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain technologies and other tools to leverage big data and benefit residents and enterprises. According to the authorities, this is speeding up administrative procedures such as real estate registration, now a one-step process compared to previously taking five days.

"Beijing ranks No.1 regarding big data development nationwide," said an official of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology at the recent Summit Forum of the Beijing Informatization Expert Advisory Committee. "Beijing boasts the best-equipped artificial intelligence industry chain with prominent conglomeration effect." In the "Big Data Development Bluebook" released by the National Key Lab for Big Data Strategy, Beijing was ranked first among Chinese cities in their big data development.

The smooth roll-out of the "data revolution" is based on Beijing's solid foundation in big data and AI industries. Beijing has gathered companies leading the nation and even the world in developing chips, servers, models, algorithms, operating systems, and software, covering the whole AI industry chain. Among them, Xiaomi, Meituan, and Baidu have become the nation's top 50 big data companies.

Earlier this month, Beijing Kunpeng Collaborative Innovation Center was co-founded by the Beijing municipal government and Huawei. The center based in Chaoyang district will focus on key products like chips, operating systems, and databases to provide more diversified and efficient data computing power in a secure way.

The Beijing official said the city is intensifying the effort to build a world-leading industrial internet eco-system with a focus on establishing innovation centers for industrial big data and industrial internet. In this regard, Beijing aims to become a pioneer and strategic fort in terms of transforming from "Made in China" to "Created in China."

Beijing is shifting its development from being driven by internet and the cloud to being driven by AI and data, the official said. The launch of a series of action plans on 5G development, big data, and industrial internet has led the city's digital economy to a fast track of sustained and rapid development.
