With a theme on "scientific and technological innovation, deepening reform and openness and cooperation", the four-day expo is being attended by representatives from 687 high-tech enterprises and institutions of 28 countries and regions to showcase their latest technological achievements and engage in industrial exchanges.

The expo, initiated in 2013, is an annual event co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Sichuan provincial government.

Mianyang gained central government approval to build the China Science and Technology City in 2001 with the aim of becoming a regional technology hub.

Covering an area of 70,000 square meters, the expo is hosting a series of major events, including innovation and development forums, investment promotion conferences, and a science and technology day dedicated to Austria, national guest of honor of this year's event.

According to the organizers, Austria has sent representatives from 27 research institutions and enterprises to showcase their cutting-edge technologies and products and foster exchanges with their Chinese counterparts.

This year's expo aims to become more innovative, international and professional, said Wang Xi, deputy head of the Ministry of Science and Technology. "We hope attendees will take the opportunity to deepen exchanges and achieve win-win cooperation."
