The Beijing trading group of medical devices and pharmaceutical products signed orders worth 218 million yuan (US$31.5 million) at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai on Nov. 5.
At the signing ceremony, Beijing Lijiacheng Company signed an intention agreement of purchase with Philips, involving a contractual amount of approximately 100 million yuan.
Meanwhile, 11 VIP hospitals of Beijing, including Beijing Tongren Hospital, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Beijing Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing Children's Hospital, Beijing Institute of Pediatrics, Beijing Chest Hospital, and Beijing Geriatric Hospital, each signed an intention purchase agreement with Philips. The aggregated value of the contracts is 117.88 million yuan.
Lei Haichao, head of Medical Devices and Medical Products Trading Group, said at the signing ceremony that cancerous tumor is the most serious disease in China and in Beijing, and that the intention agreements signed with Philips are expected to introduce more innovative products and solutions to clinical use as soon as possible, improve diagnostic accuracy by use of digital technologies and bring more valuable clinical solutions to major diseases such as cancerous tumor.
Lei said that he hopes through this potential cooperation with Philips, medical authorities can effectively control the soaring medical expenses while improving clinical efficacy, and thus achieve a win-win situation for hospitals, patients and enterprises.
As the vanguard of the medical reform, Beijing has taken the lead in developing a tiered diagnosis and treatment system. Lei said that as Beijing is home to the top-notch medical teams in China, it is expected that the city would have more advanced medical equipment to support clinical diagnosis for the benefit of patients in Beijing and the whole country.
