A Great Wall national park will be built in Beijing's Yanqing district, the culture committee of the district said in a recent announcement.
The park will integrate functions including tourism and recreation, science popularization and education, as well as protection and research, and a cultural belt and a creative development area will be built centering on the Great Wall as well, the committee said.
Yanqing recently began organizing experts to investigate the Great Wall sections within the district, looking to work out a five-year plan for the construction of the Great Wall cultural belt in the district by the end of September. The district hopes to use the plan as a guide for the protection and cultural inheritance of the Great Wall for the next five years.
Besides the national park, the district plans to build two cultural areas along rivers, three cultural and sightseeing lines, and four categorized areas, all with tourism themes related to the Great Wall.
The culture committee said that with a three-year field survey, the district has outlined the layout and the preservation status of the Great Wall, which will help to support the district's plans on the section's future preservation and utilization.
