Yiwu in Zhejiang province held a meeting on March 27 to introduce 10 initiatives to facilitate expats' lives and work in the city.
Known for its small commodity trade, Yiwu is home to around 13,000 foreign traders. This is the fourth year since the city came up with 10 initiatives to foster its development on openness and internationalization in 2015. Fifty-one foreign delegates from 31 countries, municipal NPC and CPPCC members and overseas Chinese entrepreneurs participated in the meeting.
This year's 10 initiatives are: Explore and innovate the new purchasing mode of U.N. agencies; provide training for young entrepreneurs; organize investment promotion conferences; organize a series of activities to help people learn more about Yiwu; further enable online services for foreign business; launch measures to facilitate foreigner's exit and entry; improve law services concerning foreign affairs; strengthen medical services for foreigners; build platforms for cultural integration; and further promote inclusiveness of the local communities.
The authority also reported that it had accomplished all the goals from last year's initiative.
During the meeting, an official from the Municipal Education Bureau interpreted the admission policy in public schools for foreign residents' children. A speaker from the Fourth Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine explained the outpatient services for foreigners. After the meeting, delegates visited the Land Port E-Commerce Town and the Shentong Express logistic park.
