Over 700 Winter Olympic model schools will be named, including 200 in Beijing, 200 in Hebei province, according to a plan co-issued by the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport, and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games.

The plan, targeting primary and secondary schools throughout the country, puts forward seven tasks: Primary and secondary schools across the country will incorporate education on Olympic winter sports into their curriculum, and schools with facilities in northern China will open winter sports classes. The country will hold culture and art activities on the education of Winter Olympic sports, and organize primary and secondary school students to give ideas on the designing of the mascot, the torch and the motto for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the torch relay and the countdown. The winter sports competitions, youth camps and charity events will be carried out. Partnerships between schools and ski resorts, ice rinks, and other relevant private institutions will be coorperated to offer winter sports skill courses. Schools are encouraged to establish regular competitions and winter sports festivals, while special education schools will establish education programs on winter sports.

According to the Ministry of Education, by 2020, China will have 2,000 primary and secondary schools featuring winter sports courses to engage more teenagers in the winter games and lay the athletes foundation for the winter sports in China.

In order to promote inter-regional exchanges, Beijing and Hebei province will set up schools to pair up with schools in other countries and regions. During the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, student representatives from these sister schools will be invited to participate in flag-raising ceremonies and other activities at the Olympic Village, and cheer for athletes from their home countries and regions at various venues during the Games.
