Beijing's Capital Museum will unveil seven themed exhibitions in 2018, said curator Han Zhanming at a museum press conference on Feb. 5.
The exhibitions will be themed on the Chinese zodiac's Year of the Dog, Tibetan relics, art and life in the Italian Renaissance, the history and culture of Beijing's new sub-center Tongzhou, city life in Beijing and Tokyo in the 18th century, the five capital cities of the Liao dynasty, and the history and culture of Ji'an City in Jiangxi Province, Han explained.
The dog-themed exhibition, open from Feb. 8 to March 18, will display 74 dog-related relics to celebrate China's upcoming Spring Festival, and illustrate the culture surrounding the Chinese zodiac as well as the history of the relationship between humans and dogs, according to the museum. 2018 is the Year of Dog in the Chinese zodiac.
The Tibet-themed exhibition, opening in late February, will showcase 221 sets of cultural relics collected from museums and temples in five provincial-level regions and municipalities across the country. Relics from several Tibetan temples will be shown to the public for the first time.
"The relics mirror the rich Tibetan culture and reflect Tibet's deep exchange with its neighboring regions and other places in China from thousands of years ago," Han said.
The exhibitions on the Renaissance and the city life of Beijing and Tokyo are international exchange programs co-hosted with the museum's counterparts in Italy and Japan respectively.
