On Jan. 10, roofing for the China Pavilion of the Beijing World Horticultural Exposition 2019 (Beijing Expo 2019) was completed. The construction of outdoor exhibition areas will begin in 2018.
The Beijing Expo 2019 will take place from April 29 to Oct. 7 in Yanqing District. The expo is an A1 international horticultural exposition approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers and the Bureau of International Expositions, organized by the Chinese government and sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Government.
The exterior design of the China Pavilion is inspired by the shape of ruyi, an ornamental object symbolizing good fortune in Chinese culture. The site of the pavilion covers 48,000 square meters with the building itself taking up 23,000 square meters. More than 600 construction workers and 30 administrators have worked round the clock on the site, meeting a variety of engineering challenges to complete the pavilion's construction on time.
In 2018, the construction of secondary structures, curtain walls, and fine decorations will take place in the China Pavilion alongside the landscaping construction. With the three main venues being roofed and the concealed infrastructures and preparatory works for international and domestic sites complete, the sites are ready for the upcoming construction of provincial and regional exhibition zones once their plans are approved. The construction of outdoor exhibition gardens, themed hotels, and supporting facilitates will also start this year.
