Beijing has reached all the 30 annual targets to improve people's livelihood in seven aspects in 2017, and in some cases surpassing the targets, the Information Office of Beijing Municipal People's Government announced on Jan. 5.

The seven aspects included improving people's living conditions, facilitating the public's commute, improving the quality of ecological environment, increasing the life quality of the residents, expanding basic public services, eliminating public hazards, and raising the level of social security.

The 30 goals in 2017 included completing the renovation of 36,000 housings in the shantytowns, renovating the heating networks in 100 old communities, building 10 new recreational parks, launching 200 old-age care institutions and 509 sporting facilities, and supporting more than 70 brick-and-mortar bookstores.

The city listed the projects concerning people's livelihood as the key projects and launched comprehensive mechanism to supervise and promote the implementation of the plans. The government received progress reports of the plans' implementation on a quarterly basis.

The Chinese capital launched three subway lines on Dec. 30, 2017. They were the Beijing subway Line S1, the city's first maglev line; the Beijing Subway Yanfang line, the country's first automatic subway; and the Beijing subway Xijiao Line.

The city was able to significantly surpass its goals in certain cases. For example, it built 90,000 sets of government-subsidized housings, 50 percent more than the target. It has also provided land for 50,000 self-use houses, which was three times the goal.
